Full Color Variable Message Sign integrated into the Center of Madrid

Fixalia has designed and manufactured Full Color Variable Message Signs (VMS) for urban integration in the Centro Canalejas Madrid environment.

These signs have been adapted to the strict architectural and heritage criteria of the city's historic center.

In 2019, OHLA faced the final construction phase of Centro Canalejas Madrid, one of the most exclusive urban and commercial developments in the capital.

The project required the installation of informational signs on Alcalá and Sevilla streets, complying with strict aesthetic and urban integration criteria established by the Heritage and Urban Planning Department of the Madrid City Council.

Any signage element had to visually integrate with the aesthetics of the renovated Alcalá street and with the iconic modernist lampposts of the Gran Vía area, without sacrificing the technical performance of a high-performance urban information system.

What we did
from Fixalia

Fixalia developed a fully customized Full Color solution, designed to visually integrate with the aesthetics of the renovated Alcalá street and with the iconic modernist lampposts of the Gran Vía area.

The project combined industrial design, engineering, and smart signage to create a technological element practically integrated into the urban landscape.

Results

The result was an elegant, functional urban signage solution perfectly integrated into one of Madrid's most representative architectural spaces.

It was a project capable of combining dynamic driver information, traffic management, and high-level urban design in a particularly demanding heritage environment.

This case demonstrated that variable signage technology could adapt to the most sensitive environments from an aesthetic and heritage point of view without compromising its technical performance or its ability to integrate with the city's ITS systems.
